“Lintas Nusantara” 2014 at the Malay Heritage Centre

Singa Nglaras, together with musicians from Gamelan Asmaradana and BronzAge Gamelan, is honoured to be sharing the stage with the Guntur Mataram Dance Company (Indonesia) once again at the Dance Showcase Lintas Nusantara. This showcase will close a series of workshops conducted by the company and hosted by the Malay Heritage Centre.

This year, we’re performing on two nights, 21 and 22 of November (Friday and Saturday), and will showcase music and dances from around the Malay archipelago. Our ensemble will accompany Srimpi Pandelori, a Javanese palace dance which originates from the city of Yogyakarta.

Registration is required for this event, and can be done by contacting the Malay Heritage Centre. Ticket collection for registered audience begins at 8.00pm, before the doors open.

We’re pleased as punch to be invited back to the Esplanade Waterfront for another evening of relaxing Gamelan music by the bay. This is part of Around the World, an “Esplanade Presents” programme.

South East Asian Night 2014

Join us for a night of music and dance of Southeast Asia. Presented by NUS Southeast Asian Studies and Gamelan Asmaradana, this performance will feature the meditative sounds of Central Javanese gamelan, the dynamic explosions of Gong Kebyar of Bali and the flirtatious ‘twerking’ of West Java.

The two ‘lions’, Singa Nglaras Gamelan Ensemble and Gamelan SingaMurti will be sharing the stage for the first time! They will be joined by guest performers from Indonesia, dance students from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), as well as the faculty members who will be performing Filipino and Malay folk songs.

Singa Nglaras at Lintas Nusantara

Singa Nglaras, together with Gamelan musicians from Gamelan Asmaradana, Gamelan Naga Kencana and BronzAge Gamelan will be accompanying Tari Golek Menak at Lintas Nusantara, organised by the Malay Heritage Centre and featuring Guntur Mataram Dance Company from Indonesia.

Singa Nglaras Open Rehearsal

Join us for Javanese music, snacks and fun on September 18, Wednesday: our first “Open Reherasal” of the year!

There’ll be continuous snacks, a casual performance, and a chance to play along with us (no prior experience in music required)

What a Wonderful World 2013

NUS Singa Nglaras will be taking to Esplanade Outdoor Theatre on 12 April, Friday, to bring you three sets of Javanese music:

7.30pm – 8.15pm
8.45pm – 9.30pm
10pm – 10.45pm

It’s a free and public performance, as those performances are 🙂 Our repetoire will feature a mix of traditional songs with more recent compositions.

The Story of Manikmaya

Puppeteer Ki Sujarwo Prehatin, accompanied by the NUS Singa Nglaras Gamelan Ensemble and two guest musicians from Java, will be presenting “The Story of Manikmaya”, a Javanese Wayang Kulit (Shadow Puppet Theatre) on 8 March, at the National University of Singapore. This project is organized and sponsored by the Southeast Asian Studies Department, NUS.

Date: 8 March 2013, Friday
Time: 6.30pm – Pre-Wayang Instrumental Music. The Wayang will begin at about 6.45pm.
