Getting in tune before our Big Show This Friday!
In 2010, NUS Singa Nglaras collaborated with Gamelan Asmaradana and Gamelan Naga Kencana (Republic Polytechnic) to present Ramayana Under the Stars, a day long event of gamelan music, Javanese dance, and Wayang Kulit, organised by the Peranakan Museum. We were honoured to have as guest performers Pak Midiyanto, Mbak Heni and Mas Iswanto.

In a collaboration with Soul Theory Studios, a small group of musicians accompanied a contemporary dance and hip hop reinterpretation of the Ramayana, as part of the Asian Civilisations Museum’s Children’s season 2012.

In 2009, Singa Nglaras combined classical wayang topeng (masked dance drama) with wayang mbeling (‘naughty’ theatre) to produce a hilarious performance that combined Javanese, Thai, Balinese and Japanese influences. The story and music were conceptualised by Jan Mrazek, Nunuk Sri Rahayu and Pak Trustho, and the ensemble had the privilege of working together with guest artistes Didik Nini Thowok, Pak Sidek and Pak Slamet.
